Lynette’s Blog
Welcome…
I’m The_LynnyLyn… you might remember me from such platforms as Twitter and Mastodon.
I am a university librarian, writing in a personal capacity. I live in the South Wales Valleys with my husband, our two children and our dog, Sunny.

This space is built slow and steady.
One post a week (if I feel like it).
This is a small personal space where I write about whatever happens to be on my mind. The posts are informal, captured in the moment rather than carefully polished.
I no longer use social media, but I wanted a place to put my thoughts down somewhere outside my own head. Please sign up if you’d like to be notified when there is a new post.
This site exists because I like having it. Even if I end up only speaking to myself, I still find the practice meaningful and worthwhile.

The miner, the butcher, the… candlestick maker?

I wrote this piece for the Calgary Welsh Society‘s Christmas newsletter back in 2020, when we were based in Canada. It didn’t make the final cut —probably too boozy! And I don’t think the mention of underage drinking did me any favours (and this was the clean version!).

Thanks to the BBC iPlayer algorithms, this week I watched all three episodes of Elizabeth Taylor – Rebel Superstar in close succession. What a lady! I think I’m in love…
Thu 20 Nov: Sybil was a rebel (and not just Richard Burton’s first wife)

This week I watched Mr Burton (bloody marvellous) and Richard Burton: Wild Genius (very enjoyable), both on BBC iPlayer. I was transported back to a time when celebrity was earnt. Richard Burton was one hell of a character, that’s for damn sure, but he was also unquestionably talented, intelligent and, from what I’ve seen, humble.
